Nira Who?

Nira Amba splits his busy life between writing music, studying human behaviour and taking his dog for walks.

He suffers from the infuriating habit of talking about himself in the 3rd person, but is getting help to overcome the affliction.

This occasionally works and I am okay for a while then, suddenly, he goes back to the 3rd person - it's so annoying . . . .

A Proud Mum

A Proud LadyI’m back on the pride and self-esteem ride again. You see, my Mum is going to be 80 years old on Monday (24th).

Is she proud of this achievement? No, not at all. It doesn’t mean anything to her since her spouse of over 50 years, my Dad, passed away in 2006.

She wanted no celebration of reaching the milestone of eighty years of age. No party, no nothing. Well, my brother, sister & I persuaded her to at least do something to mark the occasion and she suggested taking us, with our partners and children, out for a meal.

Makes sense, doesn’t it? What is she proudest of? Her children. Well, maybe not so much her children as what we’ve ‘produced’ for her – six wonderful grandchildren. So, a meal with the twelve of us is all she wants. My family will be going down to London tomorrow to meet up with the others, then it’s out for a meal in the evening.

It’s back to that relationship thing again – what gives most satisfaction to one human being is his or her relationships with other human beings.

Yes, other things, like having lots of money, or a great job, or excelling at a sport, for example, can give satisfaction as well. No doubt that any of those can be very rewarding.

But I am absolutely sure that, for most of us, it’s our relationships that can give us most pleasure (or most pain – but more about that another time).

So, please, please appreciate the good relationships you have built up over the years. Don’t leave it till it’s too late to see the value in what you have going for you.

Oh, and I’ll tell you how it all went in my next post.
